"The Joy Luck Club"

  1. June's mother came from China to give her daughter a better life.
  2. June took her mother's seat at the Mah Jong table, who died of a cerebral aneurysm.
  3. June's parents came to China with only a trunk of silk dresses.
  4. June has relatives in Vancover she has never met.
  5. Kweilin is was crowded new, and people are getting sick easily.
  6. The Joy Luck Club is a gathering of four women from different backrounds, they would each hold parties each week to raise spirits and raise money. They would serve food that meant something.
  7. Mah Jong had to be played in silence and seriousness.
  8. The parties were for forgetting the bad things that are happening outside their door.
  9. June's mother was told to leave Kweilin, four days after she left she was killed in the town.
  10. She walked with a wheel barrel, two and clothes to Chung King.
  11. June is 36 and is always late.
  12. The Joy Luck Club doesn't pray Mah Jong for luck they invest in stocks.

"Scar"

  2. Lived with aunt and uncle
  3. Popo told stories
  4. Father passed away
  5. Unhappy childhood
  6. Aunt had a bad temper with the children
  7. Mother was labled a "ni" or traitor
  8. Mother came back
  9. An-mei got the neck scar from hot soup when she was four
  10. The scar she received was very severe
  11. The mother came back to try and help Popo
  12. Popo died

"The Red Candle"

  • She is scared people will forget her.

  • She cannot choose her husband.

  • Old village matchmaker visited her when she was small.

  • Pichi means temper.

  • She had to marry Tyan-yu.
  • After she was set for marriage, her family acted like she wasn't their own.

  • She didn't want to marry anyone.
  • Heavy rains destroyed the family's crops and home; without the crops money the became broke.

  • From being broke the had to move.

  • She had to live with the Haungs. (Her "spiritual family").

  • Separated from her family at 12 years old

  • Haungs were untouched by the water damage.

  • The house had a story for each generation and each one was mad differently.

  • Twenty other people lived in the house.

  • She was treated as a servant.

  • Her future husband was jerk.

  • She began to assimilate to the Haungs.

  • Because of the Japanese no one came to the wedding.

  • Harsh weather came upon to wedding, which was a bad sign

  • She renewed faith in herself when she saw how grown up she was in her red ceremony dress

  • She can never divorce or remarry for the pride of her family.

  • She blew out the candle and made a huge lying plan up to annul the marriage, while keeping her family and her own pride.

"The Moon Lady"

  1. The walk Mah has taken away interaction in the family.
  2. The temperature and humidity was really bad and hard to get to sleep.
  3. A Mah is a a care taker "servant" and helps protects her while she sleeps and burning the five evils. ( lizard, spider, snake, centipede, and scorpion)
  4. Leha st. Clair is 4 years old and is allowed to go to Mooh festival.
  5. Lena to make a wish of something you want Leha has to first make an offering to the mooh and bow and think about what she wants but if she says it out loud and becomes a selfish desire.

"The Rules Of The Game"
1 .She was six year old when her mother taught her the art of invisible strength.
2 .A guy asked to take a picture of them but told them to move to capture something.
3. Her mother named her after the street they live on ( waverly ).
4. She got a box of lifesavers candy for Christmas.
5. Her mother and brother explains the rules for the game of chess.
6. She studies the game of chess and practices until she she couldn't lose a game but then she didn't have any opponents left to play.

"The Voice From the Wall"
  1. Things she see's that others can't was, the devil dancing, and the eyes of lightning.
  2. When she was describing the house, she described the doorway like a neck that has been strangled. kitchen faces the toilet room, and the house was built too steep.
  3. Her father didn't worry as much as the mother, and he explained that it's the mothers way of practicing her nesting instincts.
  4. Her mother was so worried because she was having a baby.
  5. The first night, Lena heard sounds and arguing. After hearing the argument, she was now listening to a women getting killed.
  6. "But the next night, the girl came back to life with more screams, more beating, her life once more in peril. So it continued, night after night, a voice pressing against my wall telling me that this was the worst possible thing that can happen."
  7. Lena continued to see bad things in her imagination, but found ways to change them.

"Half and Half"
1. Rose watches her mother An-Mei sweep around the white leatherette Bible, once her mother's, but now used to prop up a table leg
2. Rose thinks about how to tell An-Mei that she is getting divorced from her husband, Ted Jordan
3. She knows her mother will tell her to save the marriage, but she knows she can't
4. Rose remembers back to when her mother "lost her faith"
5. Bing, the youngest, dies... drowns
6. The next day they return to the beach and look for him. This is when she loses faith.
7. An-Mei records Bing's name in pencil in the white Bible
-HER MOTHER USED TO CARRY A SMALL LEATHER BIBLE WHEN SHE WENT TO CATHOLIC CHRUCH
- rose has a good relationship with her mother
- HER MOTHER WANTS HER TO FIGHT THE DIVORCE
- ted told his relatives that she was his girlfriend
- she told his mother that she doesn’t have any intention on marrying her son
- his mother is racist & ignorant
- ted was upset she wanted to stop talking to him because of what his mom said to her

"Two Kinds"

  • Lindo Jong daughter Walverly is a excellent Chess player.
  • Shirelly Temple was a prodigy child.
  • her mom criticized Jing Mei for her hair style or something else that she would do.
  • Jing Mei started talking back to her mother because she really wasn't good at a lot of things.
*Jing started to get practice with her piano skills.
  • & she found out her teacher was blind and deaf so she tricked him to think she was good.
  • she had to do a recital for her family and did horrible.

"Rice Husband"

  1. Ying-Yang's special ability is she can see the bad and good things that happened.
  2. The rice bowl told ying-yang that every grain she doesn't eat will be a pock on her husbands face.
  3. Her mother thought that ying yang was the one who had cause Arnold to die.
  4. Ying's husband had problems was keeping the money separate would help the relationship.

1 . After they celebrated the Chinese New Year, Jing-Mei's mother gave her a pendant on a gold chain.
2. Jing-Mei saw that a bartender was wearing a pendant and asked him who gave it to him.
3. Jing-Mei knew that the bartender had no idea what the pendant really meant.
4. The people that lived in the apartments are coasting her money.
5. For the New Year celebration, Jing-Mei's mother invited all her longtime friends.
6. Jing-Mei realized that her mother didn't kill the cat.
7. The cat started to rub on the window and she tapped on the window but the cat just hissed at her.

5 . She was named "Ying Ying" because she was like a clear reflection of her mother
6 . Ying Ying was wealthy, her house had many rooms, jade jars was cigarettes, jewels and carved ivory

8 . She was once wild & also innocent
9 . Ying Ying had half sisters from her fathers coqubein
10 . Ying Ying felt that boys were not good enough for her and that others put thoughts into her head
11 . Ying Ying know she was going to marry a man before she formally met him
12 . Ying Ying feels she was better than her daughter
13 . Ying Ying started to do anything just to please her husband
14 . Ying Ying wants her daughters tiger spirit to be "loose"

"Double Face"

* Waverly wanted to go to china for her second honeymoon, but she thought she would blend in too well. Her mother disagrees.
*Waverly did not want to learn Chinese when she was young.

*Waverly wants her mother to get a hair cut, buy her mother dosent want to.
*she thinks that Waverly is ashamed of her looks
